No-exam life insurance

Which applicants qualify for express underwriting, how the process operates, and what happens when it isn't available.

Many carriers now provide express underwriting — a faster decision method for applicants meeting age and amount criteria. These companies use your application, medication history, driving records, and other data to make decisions without a physical exam. Many approvals come through in 24 hours. Each quote shows whether an exam is mandatory, potentially required, or not required.

What it changes

Moving past the exam doesn't skip underwriting. Your responses are confirmed, and any policy issued based on incorrect information may be subject to cancellation during the first two years. The carrier may request additional testing if information raises concerns; you can choose whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Typically this includes people younger than approximately 60, applying for amounts below the carrier's underwriting limit, without major health issues, and with no tobacco use within the last 12 months. When recent medical work has included bloodwork, many carriers will accept those results instead of conducting a new exam.

When an exam is required, it typically involves a 20- to 30-minute visit by a medical professional in your home or workplace in the Highland area, and there is no charge to you. For applicants in good health, exam results often lead to improved rate classes, making the exam potentially beneficial.
